After every activity I will answer these same 4 questions to show if the exercise was an effective method of getting across the point of what we were supposed to learn.
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic? (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic? (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn?(1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
Exercise 1
1. 3
2. 4
3. 5
I think the hands on part of this lab really helps the knowledge learned stick with you. I guess one thing I am left wondering is what real world applications are there for what we learned. I think after we do the activity we should be presented with some real life examples to bring it all together.
Exercise 2
1. 2
2. 4
3. 4
I think that it would be cool to see some examples of other ways to survey the model terrain such as aerial photos or GPS points. The hands on part of this activity again really made it easier to learn the material and understand what was going on.
Exercise 3
1. 3
2. 4
3. 4
I think it would have been nice to look at some examples of navigation maps and try and use a couple on campus or something before designing our our to see what parts of the map work well or get in the way while navigating.
Exercise 4
1. 4
2. 4
3. 4
I don't think I would add anything to the assignment. The handson part with flying in the flight simulators gives you an idea of how this technology works and different attributes of the aircraft. You can then apply that to the real world situations you are presented with in the second part of the assignment. I really liked this one.
Exercise 5
1. 3
2. 4
3. 3
I think a quick demo on how to create a geodatabase and assign domains would be nice. I think some people were lost because they have never had to do that before. I really liked the option to create a teaching tutorial as part of the blog because I am a very technical person it was fun for me. It also beats writing out step by step how to do something.
Exercise 6
1. 4
2. 5
3. 4
I thought this exercise went very well. A demo of how to place our files on the Juno GPS units would have been nice but other wise good activity overall.
Exercise 7
1. 4
2. 5
3. 4
The only real problems I had during this activity was bring my groups data points back into ArcMap. We believe it was a permission problem that is easily fixable. I think it would also be good to maybe do this data collection more in the middle of the day so that there are less temperature changes and such due to the time of day. Otherwise a good activity and learned lots of skills.
Exercise 8
1. 3
2. 4
3. 4
This exercise went very well for my group. It was very well explained. I think it would be cool in the future to do this exercise with the TruPulse tech but then measure everything with a tape measure and see how accurate the TruPulse really is.
Exercise 9
1. 3
2. 4
3. 5
I think the biggest problem people ran into during this activity was getting the equipment set up and working. Some of this was human error some was the technology failing. I think more in classroom demonstration would be helpful. I liked how for learning how to use the Tesla GPS unit we went through setup step by step in the classroom where I could take notes. I would suggest doing that with the total station as well to eliminate some confusion and make the students more responsible for knowing how to use the equipment because everyone would have notes.
Exercise 10
1. 3
2. 4
3. 5
I don't think I would really change anything about this exercise. I though it was very well explained and the in class preparation before going into the field really helped and was the key to the success on this exercise.
Exercise 11
1. 4
2. 5
3. 5
Like last week this exercise went very well I wouldn't change anything about it. I was fun creating our own course but at the same time using different navigation methods and learning at the same time.
Exercise 12
1. 4
2. 5
3. 5
I really liked this activity. I am glad that this is part of this course. If nothing else it gives students an idea of what the UAV class will be like next semester. Next time I would maybe fly in a little bit bigger area where we can make a more extensive flight path. Otherwise a very good exercise.
